Wall Hanging Wooden Letters
Maria's Question - "I am trying to hang wooden letters on my girls' wall without nailing in those saw tooth hangers on every letter. Would that double sided foam tape hold them up for good on painted walls. If not, is there any kind of clay-like adhesive that would would work. The letters are very light weight.
Craft Tales Answer - "Thank you for your question. There are several adhesive products for wall mounting light objects such as your wooden letters. There are putty products like Poster Putty or UHU Tac but I don't think they would adhere to the wooden letters reliably. Double stick tapes or foam tapes are available that would adhere very well, in fact maybe too well, some products might cause damage too the wall when removed. I have had them pull off the paint and drywall paper. Scotch has a product called Command™ Picture hanging Strips that have worked pretty well for us on the same type of projects. Here are links to examples of these type of products: Command Strips and Assorted other products.
Varnish for Inkjet Prints
Lynn's Question - What high gloss varnish can I use on my ink jet print out that won't run the ink, and also won't show brush marks? Mod Podge tends to show brush marks, even when I use a foam brush. Thanks!
Crafttales Answer - Hi Lynn, Thank you for your question. There are several products that will work as a clear gloss varnish for ink jet print outs. I've found spray fixatives to work better when you want a gloss finish. Gepe (Gepe Inkjet Fix) makes a product specifically for ink jet printouts. Papilio ( Clear Aerosol UV Laminate Spray) makes a clear spray for this purpose as well. Grumbacher and others make fixatives that are made for different art mediums (like pastels) but can be used for a first coat to protect the inks. After the fixative is thoroughly dry an acrylic gloss clear coat can be applied. Quality ink jet photo papers tend to accept these fixatives without discoloration much better than regular papers or card stock. The keys are thin coats with no runs and always try a sample before doing your final printout to make sure you get your desired results. Hope this helps.
