Oven Baked Clay Lighted Pumpkin / Jack-O-Lantern
NOTE: Please read all instructions before starting.
Caution: Remember to follow all warnings and instructions on clay packaging. Warning: Do not use a flame candle with this pumpkin, only use battery operated tea lights.
Find a ball or something rounded that is approximately 2 ½" diameter or slightly larger to use as an inner form for the aluminum foil. This size will allow the tea light to fit down inside the finished pumpkin properly. A tennis ball or similar size round object will work well as an inner form. Fold the 13" x 18" sheet of aluminum foil in half then fourths. Overlap the ball or round inner form with the folded aluminum leaving an uncovered area approximately ¼ of the height from the top of the rounded object. This will leave an opening to remove the inner form through. Smooth the foil down until it is uniform and conforms well on the rounded object. Pry the opening of the molded foil away from the ball just enough to let it drop out or be pulled out. After the inner form (ball) is removed, reshape the now empty aluminum cup to the desired shape. Flatten the 8 oz. of clay into an approximately 8" x 10" section, that is between 1/8" to no more than ¼" thick. This can be accomplished with either a pasta press or by placing a ball formed of the clay between 2 pieces of wax paper and rolling it out using a rolling pin on a flat surface. Fig. 5.
