Cut the ½" thick wood into separate square pieces; 1 - 6" x 6" piece, 1 - 4" x 4" piece,
1 - 3" x 3" piece and 1 - 2" x 2" piece. Sand edges and surfaces to desired finish.

Cut the ¼" thick wood into a single 5 ½" x 5 ½" piece. Sand edges and surfaces to desired finish.

3-Tier Piece Assembly

On one side of the 6" square piece mark and pre-drill holes for the cup hooks with a 1/16" drill bit. Mark 5 spots for holes as follows: 4 holes, set in 1" from both edges for each corner. A single hole marked in the center. Drill holes to an approx. ¼" depth at each of the 5 marks. The side that you pre-drilled is now the bottom of the 6" square piece.

Mark the top of the 6" square piece (opposite side from the pre-drilled side) 1" in from all sides with a pencil. Apply glue to one surface of the 4" square piece and set it on the top of the 6" square piece and align it with the marks you made so it is squarely centered. Hammer 2d finishing nails in each corner and wipe excess glue from joined pieces with a water dampened rag. Mark the top of the 4" square piece (now joined with the 6" piece) 1" in from all sides with a pencil. Apply glue to the bottom surface of the 2" square piece (the opposite side from the pre-drilled hole) and set it on the top of the 4" square piece and align it with the marks you made so it is squarely centered. Hammer 2d finishing nails in two opposite diagonal corners and wipe excess glue from joined pieces with a water dampened rag. You now have a single 3-tier piece with five pre-drilled holes on the bottom and a single predrilled hole on the top.
